The Central University of Himachal Pradesh is an autonomous, public, Central University, located in the city of Dharmasala, State of Himachal Pradesh, India. The University was established on the 20th of March in 2009, as a brainchild of the Government of India, who plan to establish at least one Central University in states that do not already have one. On the 15th of August on the year of 2007, the Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, announced that the Government’ plans to establish Central Universities in states without one, and as such the Planning Commission executed the Central Universities Act of 2009 which paved way for the establishment of over 15 brand new Central Universities, including the Central University of Himachal Pradesh.
The Central University of Himachal Pradesh has multiple permanent campuses, one called the Beas campus at Dehradun and the other called Dhauladhar campus in the city of Dharamsala itself. The University runs 11 school of studies which then have various departments under them. The School of Studies include, the Earth and Environmental Sciences, the Business and Management Studies, the School of Education, Fine Arts and Art Education, Journalism, Mass Communication and New Media, Humanities and Languages, Life Sciences, Physical and Material Sciences, Mathematics, Computers and Information Sciences, Social Sciences and Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Management. The University has plans for further expansion and is contemplating the creation of a School of Medical Sciences. These Schools and their respective departments offer various undergraduate, postgraduate and graduate degrees along with advanced research facilities.
