The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences was established on the 3rd of June 1998 by the Government of Maharashtra in the district of Nashik in the state of Maharashtra, India. The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences was established for ensuring the proper, systematic, training, teaching and instructions in the Health Sciences, Traditional Indian Medicine and Modern Western Medicine. The Government of Maharashtra created a committee in the year of 2000 to review and assess the progress made by the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences and suggest new methods and measures to change the functioning of the University in a way that is more conducive to meeting the current challenges faced by the University.
The University offers postgraduate as well as undergraduate courses, including Ph.D courses in various Health science branches. Various five year undergraduate programs, such as the Bachelor of Surgery, Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery, Medicine and Surgery and Bachelor in Unani Medicine and Surgery are conducted by the University. Doctor of Medicine, Master of Science in various areas, Master of Surgery and other Postgraduate courses are also undertaken at this University. Other than the above, nursing degrees as well as dental courses are offered at the University. The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences is affiliated with various Universities, including Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College, Grant Medical College, Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College, Topiwala National Medical College in Mumbai, Government medical college in Aurangabad and Ahmednagar among many others.
