The Pandit Sundarlal Sharma Open University, also known as PSSOU is an autonomous, state university situated in the city of Bilaspur, state of Chhattisgarh, India. The University was established on the 20th of January 2005 and was christened after a social justice and freedom fighter, Sundarlal Sharma from the region of Chhattisgarh. The University is recognized by the University Grants Council as well as the Distance Education Council. The University has an Academic Council, Executive Council, Departments, Planning Board, Finance Committee and the Board of Studies by which it is governed and administered.

The Pandit Sundarlal Sharma Open University constitutes of the departments of Hindi, Sanskrit, English, Indian Philosophy- Yogic Science and Jyotish, Department of Library Science, Education, Commerce, Sociology, History, Economics, Political Science and Public Administration, Department of Computer Science and Applications, Department of Mathematical Science, Department of Herbal Science and the Department of Ayurveda. The courses offered by the University include Diploma programmes in Herbal Medicine, Computer Applications, Chhattisgarhi Leg. and Culture and Ayurved Prabodh, Bachelors Degrees in the fields of B.Ed., B.Com, B.Lib and I.Sc, B.Sc. Biology, B.Sc. Mathematics, BCA and B.A, Postgraduate programmes in the fields of M.A in Economics, Sanskrit,Sociology, Hindi Literature, Political Science, History, English Literature and an M.Sc in Mathematics and lastly Postgraduate diploma course in Project Report Guidelines for PGDCA/DCA and Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application. The University has a multichannel approach toward student instruction in the form of assignments, audio and video materials, self-instructional materials, face to face counselling, practicals, Gyan Vani and Gyan Darshan Channel.
