Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, abbreviated as SKUAST, is a public university of agricultural sciences and technology studies and research and is located in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. The university was established in the year 1982 by the Government of India. The university has been named after the leader of the Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, also known as Sher-e-Kashmir. The university is affiliated with UGC.
The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D programs in statistics, sericulture, environmental sciences, forestry, agriculture and environmental science. The admission is done through the common entrance examination conducted by the SKUAST university. The students are selected on the basis of their performance in the entrance examination. The research department of the university is conducting research in two section Agriculture and Animal Science. Agriculture research includes agronomy, plant breeding & genetics, post harvest technology, pomology, agricultural engineering, agricultural statistics and soil sciences. Animal Science research includes livestock production & management, animal nutrition, veterinary public health and veterinary parasitology.
The university has its own Central library, which includes thousands of books, e-journal, text journals, manuscripts, reading material, reference material, etc. The university offers facilities like health centre, inter-college volleyball competition, NSS training & activities , tours, student clubs, student organization, student counselling, accommodation for staff members, hostel (separate for boys and girls), free wi-fi connection on campus, food court and gymnastic.
