Uttar Banga Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, also known as North Bengal Agricultural University, is a public university of higher education and learning and is located in Pundibari, Cooch Behar, West Bengal, india. The university was founded in the year 2001 and Governor of West Bengal is the chancellor of the university. The campus offers facilities like residential areas for staff member, hostel (separate for girls and boys), sports club, gym, canteen, stadium, indoor-outdoor games, annual cultural festivals. There are few students organisation in the university for student’s recreational activities.
The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D programmes. The admission is done through the common entrance examination conducted by the university. The candidates are selected on the basis of grade obtained in the common entrance examination. There are three faculty departments in the university, including Technology, Agriculture and Hosticulture. The research department of the university is funded by government, semi-government and some foreign agencies. Current research project of the university are AINP on jute and allied fibres, AINP on medicinal and aromatic plants, AICRP on spices, AICRP on floriculture and All India Coordinated improvement project on wheat and barley.
The university also owns a central library which is the house of 22564 books, 120 journals out of which 88 are Indian, 20 foreign and 12 periodicals. The library also have 114 Cd-ROM, about 2000 bounded journals and 200 reports. There are about 14 departments of the library like Agronomy, Statistics, Extension, Animals Science, Economics, Horticulture, Genetics, Microbiology, Agril Engg, Plant Pathology, Forestry, Soil Science & Biochem, Agril. Entomology and Bio Chemistry.
