An Indian foreign service is an essential part of Central civil services of India. This is said to be the main diplomat of Indian government. The first civil services examinations were conducted in the year 1948. The Civil Services Examination is generally used for the selection and recruitment for the IAS, IPS and IRS. The exam consists of three stages - a preliminary exam, a main exam, and an interview - and is known for being extremely challenging. This exam is said to be the most challenging exam that one faces. There are various subjects that you should opt for. After getting selected as an IFS, you are posted anywhere outside India.


Eligibility


A candidate must be an India or he can belong to some other country such as:- Tibet, Nepal, Bhutan and China. The age limit shall be 21 years complete to appear for the UPSC examination. There are reservation criteria made available for the candidates belonging to various castes and groups. As far as educational qualification is concerned, a student should hold a bachelor’s degree in any stream with atleast one of the subjects like:- Animal husbandry, Engineering, Agriculture, Zoology, Botany, Veterinary Science and various other streams.

How to become IAS Officer


A candidate should be capable of qualifying the entrance by considering this eligibility. There are number of attempts a candidate can give. The candidate is allowed 4 attempts to give the examination. There are 7 attempts to the OBC category, whereas there are no attempt criteria for students belonging to SC/ ST casts. An essential eligibility criterion is that candidates should be physically and mentally fit.

Job profile of IAS Officer


After joining the IFS, where you are required to qualify the exam based on the top ranking scheme in India.You are then sent to Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, which is in Mussorie. The training period is of 3 months. After the completion of this training, you are then sent to the Baba Gangnath Marg near Jawaharlal university, where you have a training for about an year. After this, you are given the on-job training for learning atleast one foreign language in India. After this, you have to appear for a proficiency test and then you are posted outside India. It takes almost 3 years after clearing the 3 stages of exams and interviews, to be posted as an IFS. There are various functions and responsibilities as an IFS.

Salary Range for IAS Officer


The starting pay-scale given to an IFS ranges from Rs 8000-13,000 for the primary post.This exceeds with the increase in experience and position. There are various facilities given to the IFS officers that include various allowances. As an IFS officer you have power and authority both.
