The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) conducts the national level entrance exam to grant admission to all the graduate level medical courses of its Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS). The University was founded by Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya in the year 1916 and is one of the oldest universities of the country. The university has several institutes offering education in medicine, technology, sciences and humanities.

The BHU PMT entrance is held in two parts: PMT- Screening and PMT- Main. PMT Screening is meant for admissions to for BAMS, BDS and B.Pharm programs, while BHU-PMT Main is only for admission to MBBS program. Candidates have to first clear the PMT screening test before they can appear for PMT Mains.


Eligibility

  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 examination with the subjects English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Zoology + Botany).
  • Candidates wishing to study MBBS/BDS/BAMS should have scored not less than 50% aggregate percentage in the above exam.
  • Candidates wishing to study B.Pharm should have scored not less than of 60% aggregate percentage in the above exam.
  • The age limit for candidates for this entrance test is 17 years.

Syllabus

The syllabus for BHU PMT is based on the science subjects of the 11th & 12th standards. The BHU PMT exam is divided into 3 parts:

Section A - Physics

Section B - Chemistry

Section C - Biology

The BHU-PMT Screening test: There is one question paper with 200 objective questions with multiple choice answers. 2 marks for each right answer and -1 mark for each wrong answer. The paper will have 50 questions each from the subjects of Chemistry, Physics, Zoology, and Botany.

The BHU-PMT Main test will also have one paper with 200 objective questions with multiple choice answers. The marking system will be the same as the screening test. This question paper will have following two sections:

Section A: In section A, candidates will have to answer a total of 100 questions. The questions will be divided into these 4 groups: Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology. There will be 25 questions for each of the sections.

Section B: Similar to section A, in section B also candidates will have to answer a total of 100 questions. The questions will be divided into these 4 groups: Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology. There will be 25 questions for each of the sections.

How to Apply

Candidates can get the application form by paying Rs. 1500 from the branches of Bank of Baroda. The form can also be acquired by sending a registered post with a crossed DD/ MICR cheque for Rs. 1600 of a Nationalized Bank, drawn in favor of "The Director, Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU" make payable at Varanasi.
