The Indian Veterinary Research Institute conducts research on livestock. The institute conducts the entrance exam annually for admission to PhD veterinary courses.


To be eligible for this exam, candidates have to fulfill the following criteria:

  • Master’s degree holders in Veterinary Science of any discipline and at least 60% aggregate marks.
  • Candidates must be proficient in English language.
  • Candidates must be 23 years old as on September 1st on the year of admission.

  • Conservation Endocrinology and Reproductive Biology

  • Veterinary Clinical Sciences
  • Applied Animal Health Management
  • Advanced Health and Management of an Animal Species
  • Normal and Abnormal States of a Specific Body System
  • Advanced Veterinary Radiology
  • English language syllabus will include reading comprehension questions, précis writing & English speaking skills.


In the IVRI PhD entrance test, candidates have to appear for written test and a personal interview. The test also takes into account the candidates’ scores in Master’s and Bachelor’s exams.

Candidates have 3 hours to complete the test and the questions will be objective with multiple choice answers. The paper is divided into 2 sections:

Part A – this section has questions to test the candidates’ English language skills and General knowledge, current affairs, etc.

Part B – This sections has questions from each of the relevant subjects that the candidates’ wish to choose for doing their do a PhD.
