Netaji Subhas Open University, Kolkata, West Bengal

Netaji Subhas Open University, abbreviated as NSOU, is a public university for education, research and learning and is located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The university was formed in the year 1997 by the Government of India. The university is affiliated with UGC. Prof Subha Sankar Sarkar is the vice-chancellor and Shri M.K. Narayanan, Governor of West Bengal is the chancellor of the university. The campus of the university is spread out in the area of 15 acres and currently the university has 192 functional study centre around the globe.

The university offers degrees in undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D programs. The undergraduate programs includes ‘humanities and social science’ in english, economics, bengali, sociology, history, political science and public administration, ‘Commerce’ B.Com, ‘Science’ botany, physics, geography, chemistry, zoology and mathematics and ‘Computer science’ BCA. Ph.D programs includes courses like arts, management, distance education, commerce, computer science and application, interdisciplinary and science in environmental science, mathematics and geography. The admission is done through the common entrance examination conducted by the university. The central library of the university is situated at the Golpark campus and it has tons of textbook, reading material, reference material, journals, e-journals, online database, manuscripts, DVD, TV and manu more.

The NSOU university offers distance learning programs in which they provide self instructional material, gyan vani FM channel, audio-video CD, Interactive Radio counselling and personal contact programme. The university also has been awarded with ‘Excellence in Distant Education Award’ (EDEA) by the commonwealth of learning.
