Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, abbreviated as YSPU, is a public university of Horticulture and Forestry studies, research and learning and is located in Solan, Himachal Pradesh, India. The university was formed in the year 1985 by the Government of India and is affiliated with UGC, ICAR and ICFR. Dr. Vijay Singh thakur is the Vice-Chancellor of the university. The university is spread out in 5.5 km and is about 15 km from the main city of the Solan.
The university offers bachelors, masters and Ph.D degrees in horticulture, allied disciplines and forestry. It has two colleges, college of forestry and college of Horticulture. It has fourteen academic departments and have about 200 teachers and scientists. The academic department offers courses like plant pathology, soil sciences, fruit science, biotechnology, forticulture & landscape, vegetable science, social sciences, forest product, entomology, fruit science, vegetable science, seed science & technology, basic science, tree improvement & GR, silviculture & agroforestry, food science & technology, basic sciences and business management. The admission is done through the common entrance examination conducted by the university itself and selection of the candidates are done on the basis of their performance in the entrance examination.
The other learning centre of the university are computer & instrumentation, precision farming and development centre and regional center. The university has facilities like health centre, inter-college volleyball competition, NSS training & activities , tours, student clubs, student organization, student counselling, accommodation for staff members, hostel (separate for boys and girls), free wi-fi connection on campus, food court and gymnastic.
