Indian institute of Technology, Jodhpur is a public university which belongs to the very reputed IIT group of colleges in India, this institute is among the eight newly opened colleges of Indian Institutes of Technology that is established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development under The Institutes of Technology Act,2011. In the year 2007 IIT Jodhpur was announced by the Central Government and the formal announcement was made in the year 2008 after which the institute started to operate from its mentor institute IIT,Kanpur. The first session of IIT,Jodhpur began in the year 2008 from the IIT,Kanpur campus and about 109 candidates were admitted in the starting batch. Initially the institute was sanctioned for Rajasthan without any mention of a particular city but later after considering the major cities of Rajasthan the committee decided to select Jodhpur as the right place for this institute and in the year 2009 MRHD finally approved for establishing the institute at Jodhpur. The temporary campus for this institute was selected as the portion of MBM Engineering College which comes under JNV University ,Jodhpur and the college was shifted to this temporary campus from IIT Kanpur in the year 2010. 

This institute offers B.Tech programmers for which the admission is done through the Joint Entrance Examination that is conducted every year for the admissions in the IITs, even PhD programs are also available and they are carried out in the Centers of Excellence of the institute. In the Centre of Excellence areas of information, communication, energy sector, systems science technology for health care, economics of policy reforms, liberal arts and social sciences IIT Jodhpur has planned to carry out research programs that will be sponsored by the institute.IIT Jodhpur has been also supported by French government and they may also help the institute for the future developments. The collaboration with French government can also provide opportunities of student and faculty exchanges and also joint research programs.

The permanent campus of IITJ will be located at a distance of about 12 km from Jodhpur City and the campus will be directly connected to the National Highway 65.The campus will be having easy availability of all requirements especially water and electricity. Current campus of the institute also provides all facilities like library (with over 5000 books), computers and fast internet connectivity. Here IGNUS brings four days of total fun and exhilaration for giving some free time for the students from stress, this includes rock shows, classical performances, fashion shows, quizzes, DJ dance floors and many more interesting programs ,Tech events are also included which consists of robotics, programming, web designing , aero modeling etc. The institute also conducts a sports week named VARCHAS in which various sport tournaments and matches are organized.
