The South Asian University (SAU), a joint academic project of the SAARC announced dates of entrance test to provide admission to the below given courses

M.A. (Development Economics)
M.Sc. (Computer Science)
M.Sc. (Biotechnology)
M.A. (Sociology)
M.A. (International Relations)
L.L.M. (Master of Laws)

Eligibility

M.A. (Development Economics)
At least a 3 year bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with a minimum of 50 % marks plus mathematics as a subject of study at the 10 +2 or bachelor’s level. Although previous background in economics is not a requirement, applicants will be examined in undergraduate level economics on the admission test

M.Sc. (Computer Science)
At least a 3-year bachelor’s degree in Science/Engineering from a recognized university with a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent) with Mathematics as a subject of study at the 10 +2 and bachelor’s level.

M.Sc. (Biotechnology)
Candidates should have obtained a Bachelor’s degree, in Basic Sciences (Biology, Physics, Chemistry)/ Agriculture and allied sciences / Veterinary and allied sciences / Engineering in (Biotechnology / Biochemical Technology / Biomedical engg. / Chemical engg.), from an institution recognised by the government of the respective SAARC countries, with a minimum of 55% marks in the qualifying examination. Students, who have not studied Biology at college level, must have studied and passed Biology as a subject at 10+2 school level.

M.A. (Sociology)
The minimum eligibility criteria for applying to the M.A. Programme in Sociology would be a Bachelor or equivalent degree in Social Sciences, Humanities and Commerce (B.A. or B.Com) with 50 percent or in Sciences (B.Sc.) with 60 percent marks or equivalent grade.

M.A. (International Relations)
A bachelor’s degree in any discipline (recognized in the respective SAARC country) under the 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 55% marks or equivalent grades.

L.L.M. (Master of Laws)
LL.B. degree from any recognized university with at least 50% marks or equivalent grade point average.

Download the application form, fill it clearly in your own handwriting, preferably using a black pen, and mail it to SAU along with all the required documents, latest by April 20, 2011.

The exact venues where the entrance tests will be conducted on 21st May, 2011 will be notified by the end of April 2011.

The entrance test will be conducted in major metro cities of India

Reservation Criteria

Seats are reserved for applicants from different SAARC countries in the following manner:

  1. Not more than 50% seats for Indian applicants;
  2. At last 4% seats for applicants from each of the following countries: Afghanistan, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka;
  3. About 10% seats for applicants from each of the following two countries: Pakistan and Bangladesh;
  4. About 10% seats will be kept for applicants from outside the SAARC region;
  5. Merit lists will be prepared country-wise and the competition will only be amongst candidates within each country; and

Seats left unfilled for any country may be filled by students from other countries as per SAU rules.
