Andhra University, also known as Andhra Viswa Kala Parishad, is a public university for higher education and learning and is located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The university was established in 1926 and is affiliated by UGC. The university is affiliated to more than 570 colleges and is house of more than 20,000 students for post graduation and about 77,000 students for graduation programs.
The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in economics, sanskrit, telugu, sociology, economics, applied economics, retail managements, music, social work, history, dance, anthropology, politics, ancient history and archaeology. The admission is done through the common entrance examination conducted by the Andhra university. The selection of students are done by their performance in common entrance exam. For postgraduate programs, students has to go through personal interviews and group discussions. There are over 15 faulties in the university, which includes Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Commerce & Management Studies, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Sciences, Faculty of Yoga & Consciousness, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Oriental Learning, Faculty of Fine Arts, Faculty of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Physical Education.
The university also have research and development centres which includes Institute of Advanced Studies in Education, Centre for SAARC Studies, Centre for Population Research, Centre for Agro-Economic Research, Centre for Religious Studies, Centre for Women's Studies, Centre for Criminal Justice, Gandhian Studies Centre, Institute of Transport Management and Institute of Public Sector Management, Centre for Marine Archaeology, Ocean Science and Technology Cell, Hydrology and Water Management with Rural Bias and University Science Instrumentation Centre.
